Dear Friends,

My warmest welcome to all participants of the European Universities Championships 2025.

The European Universities Championships, as previous editions have proved, are a wonderful occasion to be together and experience the beauty of university sports.

I am pleased that a great number of students and officials, sharing their love for sports, respecting Fair Play, and competing in truly university sport spirit will meet in many cities across Europe.

During such events we do more than just sport – we broaden our horizons, get to know other cultures, promote a healthy society, we stand on the side of peace, respecting and celebrating diversity.

Being the Organizer of the Championship is challenging but in the end, rewarding as well.

I want to express my appreciation to the Organizing Committees, its Partners and the volunteers who give their crucial contribution to the success of the event. My gratitude extends to the National, Regional and Local Authorities for their auspices of this event.

I believe that the European Universities Championships will bring the participants unforgettable experiences and lots of personal achievements. I hope all of you will enjoy your time, and life-long friendships between European Students will be the legacy of all the events.

With wishes of good luck, I welcome you on behalf of EUSA to the European Universities Championships 2025!

President of the European University Sports Association (EUSA)

Dear friends,

It is with immense joy that I welcome you all to the 2025 European Universities Handball Championship, hosted in the beautiful city of Covilhã, a place where tradition and innovation come together to create something special.

This championship is not just about handball: it is about celebrating the power of youth and the vibrant spirit of university life. Over the competing days, Covilhã will be more than simply a venue – it will transform into a hub of energy, as students from across Europe come together to compete, and connect.

As we prepare for the event ahead, I invite all athletes to compete with determination and respect, showcasing the best of what university sports represent, and I assure we are working to make this event unparalleled, hoping that you will leave with memories of great matches, new friendships and unforguetable moments.

An event of this scale requires the collective effort of many individuals and organizations. I want to express my deepest gratitude to all supporters and partners and to the organizing committee, who are working to ensure that this championship will be an unforgettable experience for all.

On behalf of the Organizing Committee, I wish you all the very best for the 2025 European Universities Handball Championship. May this event be a celebration of achievement, and the strong bond between sport and community.

It’s time to play in Covilhã – let the games begin!

 Dear friends,

The University of Beira Interior, which in the 2024/2025 academic year is celebrating fifty years of higher education in this inland region of Portugal, has established itself nationally and internationally as one of the best young universities in the world, according to its position in the rankings.  The university has grown significantly and has become a leading agent and catalyst for technological, economic, social, cultural, artistic, urban, and sporting change in the region, making a real contribution to sustainable development and social responsibility.

At UBI there has always been a vision of the importance of sport because it contributes to the development of essential skills such as leadership, communication, and teamwork, which are highly valued in the labour market, and also because sport favours integration between students, promoting values such as discipline, cooperation and overcoming.

For more than 25 years, the university has had two high-quality sports pavilions, which make it possible to practise a variety of sports, which is why major university sporting events have taken place at UBI over the years. On the other hand, UBI regularly participates in various national and international sporting events with success for its athletes and, as a result of its undergraduate and postgraduate training, some of its alumni are now renowned coaches in various sports with worldwide impact, such as futsal, swimming, cycling and athletics.

It was therefore natural that, in cooperation with the Students' Association, the Social Action Services and FADU, the University successfully bid to host the European University Handball Championship in July 2025. The award of this event is proof of confidence in the organisational potential of university sport at UBI and its ability to generate a positive impact on a sporting, academic and cultural level.

I am convinced that the organisation of a European sporting event by a university represents a unique opportunity to strengthen its academic and sporting reputation, as well as providing significant benefits for the academic and local community. On the other hand, it reinforces the university's commitment to promoting health and well-being, encouraging sport and healthy lifestyle habits among students and the general population.

I welcome all the athletes, coaches and support staff from the various universities in Europe who will be attending the event, and hope you have a positive experience with your presence in the city of Covilhã and at the University of Beira Interior. Together we will strengthen the European spirit and reinforce university sport as an essential tool for the integral development of our students.

Mário Raposo

The Rector of the University of Beira Interior
