The Organizing Committee of the European University Handball Championship Covilhã 2025 is proud to announce Diogo Branquinho, a Portuguese international handball player, as the Official Ambassador of the event, which will take place from 22 to 28 July 2025, in the city of Covilhã.
Diogo Branquinho’s appointment highlights the value of sporting excellence combined with academic achievement, two fundamental pillars of European university sport. With a career defined by dedication, commitment, and success both on and off the court, the athlete embodies the values this championship aims to promote among young student-athletes across Europe.
Born in Coimbra, Branquinho began his career at CD São Bernardo and quickly made an impact on Portugal’s youth national teams. In 2013, he joined ABC Braga, where he won his first national and international titles. He represented FC Porto between 2017 and 2024 and transferred in 2024 to Sporting Clube de Portugal, where he currently plays as a left wing.
With nearly 100 international appearances for the Portuguese national team, Branquinho has competed in two European Championships, two World Championships, and the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, marking a historic moment for Portuguese handball.
His role as Official Ambassador strengthens the relevance of this event within both the national and European university sports landscape.
Organized under the umbrella of the European University Sports Association (EUSA), the European University Handball Championship Covilhã 2025 will bring together the best university teams from across Europe for a week of high-level competition, promoting not only sporting talent but also the values of cooperation, inclusion, and education through sport.
The city of Covilhã is preparing to host an international event that represents a unique opportunity to showcase the region as a key hub for European university sport.
With Diogo Branquinho as the face of this edition, the organization reaffirms its commitment to excellence, inspiration, and community engagement in both academic and sporting spheres.
