Trainee Referee Course Kicks Off Ahead of EUC Handball 2025

The Organizing Committee of the European Universities Handball Championship 2025, in collaboration with the Portuguese Handball Federation, the Academic Association of the University of Beira Interior (AAUBI), and the Handball Associations of Castelo Branco, Guarda and Portalegre, is promoting the EUC Handball 2025 Trainee Referee Course. 

This training is aimed for anyone interested in starting or further developing their skills in handball refereeing, with a special focus on the volunteers involved in the organization of the championship, which will take place in Covilhã from June 22th to 28th.

The course will run from June 25th to July 9th, in a hybrid format combining online theoretical sessions with a practical component to be held later, on dates to be announced. Registration is open until June 23rd, offering an unique opportunity for those looking to take their first steps in refereeing or to strengthen their existing knowledge.

Featuring a diverse and up-to-date program, the training will cover key topics such as an introduction to refereeing, rules of the game, technique and positioning, psychological and sociological aspects, physical preparation, health and well-being, as well as the use of the Portuguese Handball Federation’s official information system.

The EUC Handball 2025 Trainee Referee Course aims to spark interest in refereeing, promote technical development among participants, and contribute to the renewal and qualification of regional referee staff, ensuring the quality and rigor necessary for the continued growth of handball in Portugal.
