Volunteer Training for the European Universities Handball Championship Kicks Off in Covilhã

The first national volunteer training session for the European Universities Handball Championship took place on May 20th, officially marking the beginning of the preparation process for the national volunteers team that will be on the ground during the event. With a total of four theoretical sessions planned, the training programme aims to equip volunteers with the tools they need to ensure the smooth running of the championship, while also promoting the core values of excellence, teamwork, and hospitality that define this initiative.

The opening session served as a general introduction, bringing together the selected volunteers and the organising committee. Participants were introduced to the structure of the championship, the main venues involved, and the key values and objectives of the event, which will take place this July in the city of Covilhã. This first session focused on reinforcing the sense of belonging and highlighting the vital role that volunteers will play in the dynamics of the European Championship.

The second session will take place on May 22nd and will focus on “The Role and Best Practices of a Volunteer.” It will cover essential topics such as recommended behaviours, ethics, and how to manage on-site situations, all of which are crucial to ensuring a positive experience for all participants.
The final two sessions will be tailored to the specific areas in which volunteers will be working. These include medical support, delegation guides, communication and media, logistics, and technical assistance. Each training session will be led by professionals and members of the organising team, ensuring that volunteers receive thorough and practical preparation aligned with the actual needs of the event.

These training sessions are designed to ensure that all volunteers are not only technically prepared but also motivated and fully aligned with the values of the championship. The active and dedicated participation of these young volunteers will undoubtedly be a key element in the success of this major celebration of European university sport.
